Football Victoria Geelong is encouraging members of our football community to get involved in the 2026 Special Olympics Australia National Games, taking place in Melbourne from 19–23 October 2026.
Football Victoria is partnering with Special Olympics Australia to support the National Games, which will bring together athletes with intellectual disability and/or autism from across Australia for five days of competition.
The football competition will be held at JL Murphy Reserve in Port Melbourne, and volunteers are being sought to help deliver the Games across a wide variety of roles.
Be Part of the Games
Volunteering is open to people aged 16 and over, providing a fantastic opportunity for players, coaches, referees, club volunteers and others from across the Geelong football community to experience a major national sporting event while supporting inclusive sport.
Volunteer opportunities include:
- Assisting with sporting competitions
- Refereeing, judging and adjudicating
- Preparing and supporting medal ceremonies
- Transport and logistics
- Media liaison and content production, including writing, photography and videography
- Scoring and results coordination
Whether you already have experience in sport or simply want to contribute your time and enthusiasm, there are opportunities to get involved and help make the National Games a memorable experience for athletes and their families.
Volunteer Requirements
All volunteers will complete online induction and safeguarding training before the Games.
Volunteers aged 18 and over will also need to hold a valid Working with Children Check.
