Football Victoria has announced an important milestone in the development of a future Geelong Regional Football Hub, confirming Sutcliffe Reserve in Corio as the preferred site following an extensive site assessment process and council approval pathway.
The announcement marks another positive step forward in the ongoing advocacy for a dedicated regional football facility to support the continued growth of the game across Geelong and the surrounding regions.
The proposed Regional Football Hub has been identified as a key piece of infrastructure needed to meet increasing participation demand and provide pathways for players, coaches, referees and representative programs.
Football Geelong and Football Victoria have been advocating strongly for a regional facility for several years, supported by the recently completed Regional Football Facility Business Case, which examined potential locations and future infrastructure requirements.
The proposed hub would support:
⚽ Representative football programs and regional events
⚽ Pathways and talent development opportunities
⚽ Coach, referee and education programs
⚽ Community football growth
⚽ Major tournaments and event hosting opportunities
The need for additional football infrastructure continues to grow, with participation in the Geelong region increasing significantly in recent years across junior, senior, women and girls, and All Abilities football.
Importantly, advocacy continues not only for a regional hub, but also for increased investment in facilities at club level to ensure local communities have access to quality pitches, changerooms, lighting and supporting infrastructure.
Football Geelong acknowledges the work undertaken by Football Victoria, the City of Greater Geelong and all stakeholders who have contributed to progressing this project.
