Geelong Rangers Football Club marked a major milestone over the weekend, celebrating 70 years of rich footballing history, community spirit, and club pride.
Held at the Batesford Hotel, the anniversary event was a night to remember — bringing together past and present players, supporters, volunteers, and club legends in a heartfelt celebration of the club’s journey since its founding in 1954.
A key highlight of the night was the induction of John Barr as the club’s first-ever recipient of Legend Status, recognising his outstanding service, leadership, and commitment to the club over many decades.
The evening also saw the launch of a new honour — the Scott Davison Medal — named after the club’s 7-time Best & Fairest winner and one of the most respected figures in Rangers history. This award will stand as an enduring tribute to Davison’s legacy and impact on the club.
Guests were treated to a delicious dinner and lively entertainment by The People’s Poets, whose performance had the crowd laughing and reminiscing well into the night.
The club was also honoured by the attendance of City of Greater Geelong Mayor Eddy Kontelj, whose presence added to the sense of occasion and recognition for the club’s contribution to the local sporting landscape.
Geelong Rangers President, Martin Brandwyk, said the event was “a powerful reminder of what makes this club so special — not just the football, but the lifelong friendships, the hard work behind the scenes, and the generations of families who have proudly worn the blue and white.”
