As Victoria gears up for the 2026 state election, Football Geelong is urging political leaders to put grassroots sport—particularly football—on the agenda. With participation across the region continuing to surge, our game needs investment in infrastructure now more than ever.
A recent article in the Geelong Advertiser (17 July) highlighted Football Geelong’s advocacy for funding to support the rapid growth of our sport. The article recognised the significant increase in local football participation, particularly among women and juniors, and the strain this is placing on already stretched facilities.
We’re calling on all sides of politics to commit to a strong and sustained investment in community football. That means new pitches, upgraded change rooms and improved lighting.
We encourage our football community to speak up, share their stories, and make it clear that local football matters. With the right backing, we can build a future where everyone in the Geelong region—no matter their age, gender or background—has the chance to play the game they love.
