Football Victoria Geelong welcomes the recent decision by Colac Otway Shire Council to endorse a feasibility study supporting the development of a dedicated Colac Soccer Hub, an important step towards providing long-term football infrastructure for one of the fastest-growing areas in our region.
The endorsed study identifies a clear pathway for the future of football in Colac Otway, recognising that participation growth is placing increasing pressure on existing facilities and limiting opportunities for players and clubs.
The proposed hub would provide a permanent home for football in Colac and help meet current and future demand for the game. The former Colac High School site has been identified as the preferred location due to its accessibility, capacity and ability to support long-term growth.
The project has received strong support from Council, Football Victoria and the local football community, including Colac Otway Rovers AFC, whose continued growth highlights the need for dedicated football facilities. The club currently supports junior and senior programs and has expanded significantly in recent years.
The feasibility study found that the region currently lacks dedicated rectangular football pitches and supporting infrastructure, despite growing participation numbers and increasing demand from both male and female players. It recommends a staged approach to delivering a fit-for-purpose football facility capable of supporting the game’s future growth across the Colac Otway region.
