It was a landmark day at Village Park as Barwon Heads Soccer Club hosted its very first All Girls Soccer Tournament, marking an exciting step forward for female football in the region.
With the sun shining and the pitches perfectly set, the club came alive with energy as eager young players – from under-11s to senior women – took to the field. Teams from Drysdale Soccer Club, Lara United FC, FC Leopold, Armstrong United Football Club, Golden Plains, Surf Coast Football Club, and Corio Soccer Club joined the hosts in a thrilling day of competition.
Barwon Heads’ Hammerheads were well-represented, with over 50 players pulling on the orange kit to showcase their skills, teamwork, and determination. The day wasn’t just about the competition; it was a celebration of female football, sportsmanship, and the growing enthusiasm for the game within the local community.
A huge credit goes to tournament organisers Mark and Kate, who, despite running on little sleep, delivered a seamless and memorable event. Their hard work, along with the efforts of dedicated volunteers including Bec, Sarah, Sam, Shaun, Stew, Dan, and many others, ensured the day was a resounding success.
The event also saw several junior players take on the challenge of refereeing, highlighting the development of leadership and officiating skills among the next generation of players.
With smiles, sweat, and plenty of goals, the inaugural All Girls Soccer Tournament was an undeniable hit. The excitement and passion displayed throughout the day have already sparked plans for next year’s event, with hopes of doubling participation numbers and further strengthening female football in the region.
Congratulations to all the players, coaches, referees, and volunteers who made the day so special – here’s to an even bigger and better tournament in 2026!
